Formed in 1992, Barnsley BSAC Divers is a non-profit making BSAC-affiliated Scuba diving club with the simple objective – to dive and have fun! Our social, family-friendly club offers a great mix of quality training and regular diving where divers can learn and progress at their own pace. We meet at 7:30pm every Tuesday evening at the Barnsley Metrodome.
Through your membership of Barnsley BSAC Divers you can enjoy the full range of club and training activities, including weekend dive trips, diving holidays and social activities.
As we are a non-profit organisation, many of these activities are run at cost for the benefit of our members:
By the way, you don’t have to be a British Sub-Aqua Club (BSAC) qualified diver to join us – in fact some of our most active divers originally trained with PADI, either overseas or in the UK. You won’t have to do a complex transition, or re-train – just come and have a chat and we can work out the best way to get you in the water with us.
If you decide that you would like to continue your training, our qualified instructors can help you progress and qualify through the BSAC diver grades. And, yes – your BSAC qualification is recognised and accepted worldwide!!!
Barnsley BSAC Divers is affiliated to the British Sub-Aqua Club (or BSAC) as Branch 1864. BSAC has been recognised since 1954 by the Sports Council as the national governing body of recreational diving in the UK. It is a diver training organisation that operates through its associated network of local, independent diving clubs and diving schools worldwide.
Given that UK waters are relatively cold and have restricted visibility, BSAC training is regarded by its members as more comprehensive than some. Specifically it places emphasis on rescue training very early in the programme.
So, whether you’re a qualified PADI (or other agency) diver or only just started, tried it on holiday or would like to learn to Scuba dive, if you want the highest standards of training and great diving in good company, then BSAC is for you.
Barnsley BSAC Divers has been based at the Barnsley Metrodome Leisure Complex since 1992. Located less than 3 miles from J37 of the M1 with free on-site parking, the Metrodome Arena is a superb place to undertake your Scuba training. There are ample changing room facilities, lockers, and refreshments available. There’s even a spectator area for non-diving family and friends!
To support theory lessons, meetings and social events, the club hires the Metrodome Board Room. This room boasts a 50″ plasma TV – ideal for slide shows and trip briefings. And our 4m dive pool, supported by our equipment store ‘the cage’ with an on-site compressor, provides a superb confined-water training facility that is deep enough to practice buoyancy skills and simulate Open Water dives. Please pop in and say hello – we meet at 7:30pm on Tuesday evenings.
