Greetings Divers – Dearne Valley Divers is offering our club six places on an amazing and very unusual dive trip to Narvik during August 2020 – you won’t see this anywhere else!!
Narvik is a small town situated in the sub-polar region of Norway that was originally developed as an all-year ice-free port for the neighbouring Swedish iron ore mines. In 1940, it became the focal point for the WW2 Norwegian campaign that bore witness to fierce naval battles between the Royal Navy and Germany’s Kriegsmarine.
Today, there are 19 shipwrecks scattered throughout the Narvik Fjords – think of it as the Norwegian equivalent of Scapa Flow!!
Most wrecks are within 25 metres and can be dived on basic scuba equipment. Narvik water temperatures in August are typically 11-12°C. Visibility is generally excellent.
The package includes flights, 7 nights accommodation, catering and 2 boat dives per day (cylinders, air and weights provided). Accommodation is a typical Norwegian house with 4 bedrooms, lounge, kitchen, sauna and drying area. It is north facing with unobstructed views of Ofoten, Hejanges, Rombak fjords – good for midnight sun and northern lights. It’s only a 2 minute walk to the boat!
Here’s the best bit – after the evening meals (remember, it’s 24 hours daylight), the skipper includes local sightseeing trips in a minibus, taking in water falls, ravines, eagles, natural history, war museums, BBQ’s at the side of the fjords… Lots to do and see!
The trip will run 31st July to 8th August (+/- 1 day) 2020. The *approximate* cost based on 12 divers, including flights, is £1450 per diver – basically the cost of an Egypt Liveaboard!! Remember, this is an entirely unique and bespoke package!
