Hi All – you may have heard that I’m planning a day dash to St Abbs (a marine reserve just over the Scottish border) on Saturday the 16th Sept. The intention is to carry out two sea shore dives – probably Seagull Rock and/or Broad Craig. This is open to ALL diver grades, but would be an ideal first sea dive for new Ocean divers (it was mine back in 2008!).
No deposits required – you just need to make sure you’re at St Abbs harbour car park by 10:30am at the very latest! Journey time is around 4 hours from Barnsley.
There are no changing facilities at St Abbs other than a public toilet. There are hot showers available at the Harbour Trust in Eyemouth if needed. There is a café in St Abbs harbour. You will need standard SCUBA kit plus two full cylinders. You will also need approximately 2kg additional weight for sea diving.
Diving will be very much weather dependent – I’ll only know on Thursday 14th if this dive is possible. If it isn’t, then Plan B will be to switch to a quarry – 8AL or Capernwray.
If anyone wishes to make a weekend of it, St Abbs and the surrounding area is very nice and well worth a visit. Unfortunately I am only available on the Saturday, but another of our instructors, Paul Tarn, is currently planning a full weekend there (subject to confirmation) and may be in a position to supervise further dives on Sunday 17th Sept.
If you’d like to go, just drop me a line so I know to expect you and we can coordinate travel.
